Kem Trong Scenic

Traveling to Ha Nam, a scenic spot you should not miss is Kem Trong scenic. Kem Trong scenic is located in Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Liem district, Ha Nam province. This place has a poetic landscape, once mentioned in the poetry of Ho Xuan Huong:

“The two sides are mountains, the middle is the river
Is this Kem Trong Scenic?
Tree branches sway in the wind,
Ripples on the surface of water
The space inside this cave is narrow
Leave the space wide on the outside
Through the cave should look back
Who knows wistfully?”

The beauty of Kem Trong scenic is made up of a river between two limestone mountains. Kem Trong scenic is like a breaking point, a watercolor painting and a rare masterpiece that heaven and earth bestowed on the land of Ha Nam. The natural scenery here is not vast nor massive, but in Kem Trong, rivers and mountains, fields, plants, and people harmoniously combine to create a complete whole. The sky is deep blue, the mountains are blue, and the water is as blue as jade, silhouetted against the gentle Day River.

On beautiful days, we also hear the pleasant sounds of fishing nets knocking on the side of the boat. Each fleet of fishing boats, sailing full of wind, daily passing on the river makes the scene of Kem Trong more vivid.

In particular, on the left of Day River, there is a Dao River nearly two kilometers long, both ends connecting with Day River, flowing around Turtle Mountain and Co Dong Mountain, directly related to Kem Trong scenic.

This story tells that, in 1821, when he first ascended the throne, King Minh Menh opened a tour from Hue to Bac Ha. On the way back, passing Kem Trong scenic, enjoying the beautiful scenery and understanding the meaning of the poem that Ho Xuan Huong wrote, King Minh Menh stopped the boat and urged the people to finish digging a new river for the boats to cross.

In addition, visitors can learn another legend about the Dao River when visiting Kem Trong. Under the Le dynasty, a good general in the village of Doan Vi was given the title Duke. There are many places, such as King wharf, Dragon nib, ... according to feng shui theory, it is a good land. Thuong Che was a great mandarin of the court. Once he came here, he was afraid that this land would develop and the throne would go to the duke, so he told the king to force the people to dig a river for a day and a night to destroy the dragon circuit. The order was issued while exploring a river, people were injured and died a lot, blood mixed with water.

The two legends above, although at two different historical times, were derived from the interests and selfishness of the ruling class at that time.

Visiting Kem Trong, a spiritual place tourists should not miss is Trinh Tiet Pagoda. The pagoda is located at the back of the virgin mountain, in Dong Xuyen village, Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Liem district, Ha Nam province. The temple is designed according to the architecture of the second type, including two buildings, each with three compartments. According to the weather, Trinh Tiet Pagoda all year round still regularly smokes incense. Not only worshiping Buddha, but people in the region also came to burn incense to commemorate the princess of the Tran dynasty, honored in the temple's harem.
