The Salary Distribution Ceremony of Saint Tran at Tran Thuong Temple in 2024

At the hour of the Rat on February 23, 2024 (or the 14th day of the first lunar month), at the special national relic Tran Thuong Temple (Tran Hung Dao commune, Ly Nhan district), the People's Committee of Ha Nam province organized the Salary Distribution Ceremony of Saint Tran at Tran Thuong Temple - Spring of the Wood Dragon year 2024.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Thi Doan, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education; Le Thi Thuy, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; leaders of the provincial People's Committee, leaders of departments, boards, branches, and mass organizations of the province along with a large number of people and visitors.
 

The Salary Distribution Ceremony of Saint Tran at Tran Thuong Temple is a festival that reenacts the historical event of "distributing military salaries" when the Tran dynasty's army defeated the Yuan-Mongol invaders for the third time (in 1288) with traditional rituals, carrying profound meanings. The bags of salaries (consisting of various grains such as corn, beans, rice) are both gifts of fortune and prayers of Saint Tran for a year of national prosperity, peace, favorable weather, and abundant harvests.

The festival is organized to commemorate the great contributions of the national hero, Duke Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan. The festival is held right at the temple/location where Duke Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan chose as one of the six granaries, providing provisions for the army in the resistance wars against the Yuan-Mongol invaders in the 13th century.

After the traditional spiritual rituals, the salaries of Saint Tran were ceremoniously prepared by the Provincial Buddhist Church of Ha Nam and distributed at various distribution points to the people.

To ensure that both locals and visitors attending the ceremony receive their share of luck for the Spring, the organizers coordinated with the temple to prepare nearly 20,000 bags of salaries at 19 distribution points on the East and West sides of the temple's outer courtyard.
 

The Salary Distribution Ceremony of Saint Tran in 2024 took place over the weekend, attracting a large number of visitors. Therefore, to ensure security, order, and traffic safety for delegates, visitors, and locals, the Ha Nam Provincial Police directed the Ly Nhan District Police to coordinate with relevant departments to conduct area surveys, deploy plans, organize guidance, traffic control, and fire-fighting arrangements at incense burning locations... to ensure the distribution and receipt of salaries for the people are carried out safely and efficiently.

With the aim of preserving and promoting historical values, educating patriotic traditions against foreign invaders, and instilling the principle of "remembering one's roots," in 2010, the Ha Nam Provincial People's Committee collaborated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to revive the Salary Distribution Ceremony of Saint Tran at Tran Thuong Temple.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Truong Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Ha Nam Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the Salary Distribution Ceremony of Saint Tran at Tran Thuong Temple has become a tradition, an occasion to honor the heroes who contributed to the founding and defense of the nation; deeply engraving historical lessons through glorious victories, illustrious achievements, and the shining moral example of Saint Tran among the people.

Coexisting with the development of society and the people of Ha Nam, the Salary Distribution Festival of Saint Tran has now become an annual cultural and spiritual event of the locality, an indispensable cultural feature, attracting many locals and visitors to participate.
